Settings.cfg with tweaked ocean rendering and a few other tweaks.

There are 3 settings (Low V2, Default V2, and High V2) that you can choose from in the settings menu. I recommend trying the High V2 first. Another thing you can do is change the Aerodynamic FX Quality to the lowest setting. This will significantly improve performance during reentry and lift off. Make sure to change your resolution setting to the native of your display. The default is 16:9 1920x1080. If you are having issues with starting the game, this may be because the resolution of your display is lower than the default. Change it manually in the cfg then save it. If you want the default settings.cfg back and you didn't save a backup, simply delete this one and start the game. A new file will be generated for you.

The oceans still look the same but their texture may appear to be about a meter lower than their collision mesh. Given the massive performance boost it's given me, I can dismiss slight climate change easily.

The in performance is most notable while in low orbit around a planet with oceans.

CFG compatible with 0.18.1 and above.

Crashing during load? Run KSP in half the normal memory using OpenGL mode! No need for x64!

Some performance tweaks:

If you have an NVIDIA Graphics Card, go to your NVIDIA Control Panel and add KSP.exe if you already haven't: Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Add > KSP.exe Now, make sure the following settings are set for KSP.exe:

  • Anisotropic filtering: 4x or higher
  • All antialiasing should be Application-controlled - it kills FPS when looking at complex geometry (KSC or large spacecraft), try changing this setting in the KSP settings menu and see if it's worth it
  • Maximum pre-rendered frames: 4 (or more if available)
  • Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization: On
  • Threaded optimization: On
  • Triple buffering: On (if Vertical sync is on)
  • Vertical sync: On or Adaptive (unless you still have poor performance, then turn it Off)

Feel free to change the rest of the settings as you desire or just let them be as they are.

If you are not sure how to access this panel, right-click on your desktop and NVIDIA Control Panel should show up assuming your graphical drivers are up-to-date and that you have an NVIDIA Graphics Card (GT ???, GTX ???, others). Something similar should also be for AMD GPUs.

TIP: If you are having trouble saving screenshots by pressing F1 in-game, make sure to launch the game as the administrator or simply move your KSP folder to another location such as your Desktop. Your screenshots will be in the Screenshots folder located in the root folder for KSP.
