Hi nathan!
I think is a bug but well.. I will explain to you.
When you have open the "Inventory" of a wand (Right click in the wand to default and appear the pictures) and in creative, you select the "destroy item" buttom to delete all the items in the inventory. You can destroy too the icons of the spells learned.

Wands don’t work in creative mode. It’s the first or second question in the FAQ :)
