I think that this should be an optionin the config file just like the creeper one. When set to true it should disable all damage caused by Ghast firballs including fire and explosions. Turning on this should not disable the player damage however.

The last sentence is inconsistent with similar options. iirc there are actuaply two settings for each, an i think i did fireballs already, but maybe i didnt push

Nope, there doesn't seem to be any sort of protection from ghasts in the config. Maybe you didn't push the version with that feature.
