I understand that you haven't had long to work on this since 1.8.

I think I speak for quite a few users of this plugin that we'd like to see a flag blocking Endermen from picking up blocks in certain areas, (After all who want's to have holes in the walls of their 50-foot tall golden castle?) I have no knowledge of The Bukkit API or Minecraft Code, But I don't imagine that it would be too hard to do.
