Help Me Mod
Welcome To Advanced Smithing!
In this addon you will find all recipes for iron tools and armor onwards will be no more!
In place you will find a well thought out, and intuitive (mostly) new way to craft your gear!
Iron, gold and diamond all have unique processes from each-other that slow progression for players so that its not as easy as mining diamonds on day one, it will encourage resource gathering and exploring the world in order to progress.
This mod also introduces short swords, being faster but with less damage, to big weapons, including the scythe, great sword and battle axe, all doing more damage but way slower.
There will also be 2 handbooks spawning in blacksmith buildings in villages; blacksmithing for dummies vol.1 % vol.2, these will show you step by step how to go through this new process in game for ease of access.
This mod also includes advancements that tie into base game ones for a smooth playthrough.
This mod only adds items, and encourages the use of vanilla blocks and to create a proper workstation.
to handle hot items such as ingots or weapons, craft smithing gloves.
Firstly, Tools
-Iron:
Iron must now be heated in a furnace or blast furnace, for weapons however, dip in a lava cauldron.
Using heated ingots you can craft them in the shape of tools and you will receive the corresponding tool head. Using these, string, and a matching handle you will craft your tool!
You can craft a small ingot with 4 nuggets in a 2x2 crafting grid. Small nuggets are for short swords among other things.
-Gold:
Gold is a lot more of a process to closer resemble real life gold plating, firstly you need to place 3 gold and a bucket into a crafting grid, to receive gold in a bucket, which you then smelt to turn into molten gold in a bucket, you can then fill a cauldron with these buckets. Then you must smelt copper ingots and craft them into tool heads, they cannot be crafted into tools themselves, but must be dipped into a molten gold cauldron. giving you gold tool heads, which then can be crafted into tools the same as iron.
-Diamond:
In order to make diamond more interesting. mining ore now will not give you full diamonds, but shards! Fusing these shards with amethyst will give you small diamonds, which are for encrusting. To encrust, you need an iron tool head, and surround it with 8 small diamonds. and to create full diamonds you can do 3x3 small diamonds to craft. This gives diamond less use besides crafting blocks but makes it a little more of a flex, and may encourage to use it as more of a currency, than a useful item, at least that's my personal thought.
-Netherite:
This remains largely unchanged, as I think it works as it is, the only change I have made is you need heated gold ingots rather than non heated.
Armour
-Iron & gold:
same recipe besides ingots
-Diamond:
Encrusting, like tools
-Netherite:
Business as usual
A few other features include:
you can use heated ingots and small diamonds to fix their corresponding tools, besides vanilla items, until I can make a workaround or fix
you can heat swords and short swords in a furnace and upgrade them in a smithing table with a mold to make new items, with pros and cons to each.
molds are made by placing a stone slab in a crafting table, and then given a pattern in a stonecutter. There are currently 6, 3 for swords, 3 for short swords
for JEI mod id is @swords_plus, just thought id give the heads up
This is my own way of making an in depth mod for smithing tools and armour, somewhere between tinkers and spartan weaponry with my own take on it. I will continue to update (hopefully), no plans for earlier versions and probably wont do 1.19.2 unless absolutely needed. Any suggestions are welcome, feature wise or item wise, and if you come across something that should not be there, let me know!
I will also try and figure out mod compatibility, if I can then expect it. I'm more of a texture artist than a coder, so I use MCreator to make my mods which isn't as flexible then coding but still is a great tool and I encourage it if you're wanting to get into modding too.
I've developed some other snazzy mods, Check 'em out:
Rusted: Java Edition | Overhauls Early Game Armour and Weapon progression! sister mod to Advanced Smithing.
Fashionable Hats | Adds new wearable hats to spruce up your player!
Happy crafting,
