This would put an incentive to not block the meteor (which prevents ritual destruction) as the meteor only fills non-occupied block spaces.

It would also provide an opportunity for modpack authors to customize them even more for specific needs (i.e. "simulate" an AE2 meteor with chest in the center, various other "reward" or "progress" meteors with a chest or special blocks in the center)

Further customization might be possible by configuring the surface, mantle and core of the meteor with specific blocks or block weights.
