Crashes on startup with RenderPlayer API

Game crashes on startup when installed with RenderPlayer API, a dependency mod for Arkif's Hoverboard Mod. Here are the details:
Forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2860
CustomPlayerModels-1.12 v0.6.14a
RenderPlayerAPI-1.12.2-1.0
Arkif'sHoverboardMod-1.12.2-0.4.2.1 (not required to reproduce)

I know 1.12.2 is considered abandoned but please, consider fixing the issue if it can be fixed on your end.
