with previous versions, exporting as a model used to not require the need of a github gist to operate. But the two most recent versions do however. Not sure if this is actually a bug or not though.
If it isn't a bug, it was more helpful to not need the gist as you didn't need to go through and make a new gist if your skin has a great many variations
