This mod for Minecraft 1.12.2 replaces standard minecraft torches in a way that torches can be placed exactly in a corner.
A torch's position will dynamically change if surrounding blocks change, i.e. if one of the corner's blocks is broken it will automatically move from a corner position to the remaining blocks middle and the other way around. Additionally a placed torch's position can be manually changed by right clicking it.
You can partially influence the dynamic placement behaviour via the mod's config menu to make torches automatically switch to a position on the ground if the torch-bearing wall is broken.
It also includes two automatic modes to automatically either move torches to a corner position where possible or move them back to a vanilla position to allow for easy uninstalling of this mod. Unfortunately these modes only function in currently loaded and active chunks.
Standard torch behaviour is still provided and torches can be used in recipes but I can't guarantee compatibility with any mod changing/extending torch behaviour.

I'm going to update this mod according to my planned features (visible on this mod's GitHub page) but can't provide a fixed update plan as I'm working on this in my spare time, so please be patient.
There is also an old version for 1.7.10 which did not make it to a final and consistently working release. If you're curious you can still delve into it and maybe get it working in 1.7.10 as well but I probably will not work on it in the forseeable future.
