Possible Modern Winter Integration?

Modern Winter is an older mod that does a lot of interesting things. It enables snow to pile up to full block height over time. It allows snow to fall over oddly shaped blocks like plants, fences and stairs. It also allows snow in any biome.

It has not been updated in a very long time, but the author has encouraged unofficial updating. It also looks like there's a few folks currently working on making an update.

I know nothing of coding in java. Zip. Nada. But I thought that this mod would integrate beautifully with ExtrabiomesXL in the spirit of beautifying Minecraft & introducing more realism. Is there a way to make this happen if/when an update is made?

I think if we made it so that there could be snow in any biome that it would need to be able to be configured so people could choose whether or not they want this option. It would be very strange to see snow falling in the jungle or rainforest or savanna. Perhaps even an option as to whether you want the snow to pile up on things like tall grass or glass. As someone who does not like snow (in the minecraft world or the real world) I would just as soon eliminate all snow and ice from the game rather than add more....lol.

That is a good mod...and I like how he makes the snowy biomes more snowy, without introducing snow in every biome. Some of what he provides can be done with the Better Snow options in MCPatcher and Optifine.

But...this mod is a jar file mod that modifies base classes. He does not provide the source code (probably for legal reasons)...but instead asks us to install his mod and decompile minecraft...then we have to figure out what has changed from vanilla minecraft, extract that and get it in our mod...if we can then make his changes without jar file edits...and I am pretty sure we can't do it without making changes to base files...not to mention integrating it in our mod goes against his loose terms of distribution...

So a lot of effort for a high probabilty of no payoff...Sorry, @Shavahi ... no can do! ๐Ÿ˜„

sounds like a good idea apparently there is snow code by mojang already in the source that isn't used.

With snow buildup I think the easiest thing to do would be to have it build ON full blocks and build IN odd blocks. so if it fell on grass you would see the top of the grass still poking out from the top of the buildup.

With "odd" blocks I guess that would mean that there would be two blocks occupying the same space. not sure if that is possible without vanilla edits.

As far as I know, that's exactly how this mod works. I have no idea what black magic is used to accomplish the block-within-a-block effect, but the end result is really cool.
