Expected Behavior

I'm not 100% sure what I expected to happen, really, as I don't know how the Rascal functions in terms of spawning and despawning.

But I had three or four of them running around my underground base and with a datapack I made to have mobs spawn with varying sizes, there was one or two that were particularly small which I though was really cute. I was hoping to nametag that one in the hopes that specific one (with its specific size) would hang around the tunnels where I was setting up my base.

Actual Behavior

That specific one got away, but as I've never nametagged a Rascal I plopped a tag on the first one I managed to catch up to and it just... stopped. No sounds, no movement, nothing. It isn't frozen in place, I can nudge it, I can leash it, it'll move that way... But it's not behaving like a Rascal.

Reproduction Steps

  1. Wait for a Rascal to appear (or spawn one in)
  2. Name it
  3. Broken Rascal

Screenshots & files

I guess I'm gonna give Rascally a good home... I feel bad now. I didn't think this was gonna happen by giving one a name. ;_;

So, the above only seems to happen if I nametag them while I'm in survival.

If I nametag them in creative, they will still wander around and chatter. They don't go silent and still.

I also noticed that Rascally (the one above) seemed to snap out of it after a game reload (coming back to my save tonight) so that prompted me to see if anything else might jog them. I found that catching one in a Mob Lasso (mod by Fuzs) and then putting them back will jog them out. Picking them up with Carry On and setting them back down also jogs them out of it.
(This also means that I now have several to make a home for lol)

I believe you already talked about this on discord too? I will check it based on this info, i guess it's a bug and it should be working the same way for creative and/or non-creative players.

Yes, and I apologize for the duplication! I posted here first because I thought it was a bug. What I shared on the Discord after wasn't meant to be a bug report, I had just wanted to share the picture cause I felt bad thinking I'd broken poor Rascally. But since you'd responded to me on the Discord and that is what prompted me to look into it more, I shared my follow-up there as well as here.
