Fire cannot be put directly on the tops of mirrored blocks

This makes sense for the first time, since it's the tool used to create fire. However, subsequent times delete the fire immediately, despite there being no new mirror faces to create and preventing actual fire from being placed on these faces if desired:
Do note that fire placed on top of such a block by proxy of the side of another block will produce a more longer-lived flame, which is what would be expected for subsequent lightings of the top.
