The problem is that version 0.12.0 and 0.12.1 eat a lot more memory than previous versions. in the forge loading screen you can see that very clearly. In my case, 56 mods are loaded and it will be assigned with the older version 0.11.0 about 700 MB memory. in the new versions 0.12.0 and 0.12.1 about 2400 MB will be assigned
