Would it be possible to add support for these items to use the trinket slots for rings, cape, and hat, respectively for the trinkets mod (I think forge has the curios mod which does the same thing as well). It's possible to use a datapack to allow them to be equipped in those slots, but their effects don't work when equipped with that method.

That's fair, I didn't know it would make it a must-have dependency. I understand why you'd want to wait until there were more trinket items before wanting to make it required then.

If I were to implement it, it would be another must-have dependency, another mod you have to install in other words. I could do it, but at this time, I don't feel like there are enough trinket items to make it worth it. Maybe in the next update I'll do this.
