Video showing exploding and rising Methane gas(Version 0.5.2):

What is this?

This is an updated part of my ancient old Mod named Material Evolution, but only the blocks and items serving as material library. I've extracted all materials, blocks, and items, and allow them to naturally spawn in the world during world generation, as ores, patches of lakes, and randomly spawned items of all stone/nugget variants. Due to its nature as library, all other parts of the original mod are released within De Re Metallica. This refers to any of the metallurgist realism, and difficulty features of the original mod. This mod library introduces 70+ blocks of type: ore, (gem)ore, stone, fuel, and organics. It furtherly provides 95+ item variants related to "non" industrial metallurgy, like nuggets, ingots, ounces, and gravels of all the ores. On top of that it will also introduce oil "lakes", and some other organic materials, like pitch, bitumen, and other adhesives, as well as items of type "naturals", like canvas, fur, and tinder. As specialty there are variants of "blind" ores, that will yield...well...you'll see. Another special addition has been introduced with version 0.5, a gaseous block named Methane that will act like firedamp in caves. So beware down there!

Can you give any info on all object variants?

Sure. Refer to this formulas:

I. Metals: name: ore variants || item variants || special info

  • Antimony   : Stibnite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || alloy material, has native spawn
    • Arsenic      : Arsenopyrite Ore, Orpiment Ore, Realgar Ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || has native spawn, is used for dyes and as poison
  • Brass         : no ores || ingots, ounces || alloy result
  • Bronze       : no ores || ingots, ounces || alloy result
  • Copper      : Azurite ore, Chalcopyrite ore, Malachite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || alloy material, has native spawn, has gloss variants
  • Gold          : Calaverite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel || has native spawn, uses vanilla objects
  • Hardlead  : no ores || ingots, ounces || alloy result
  • Iron           : Haematite ore, Magnetite ore, Pyrite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || alloy material, uses vanilla objects, has gloss variants
  • Lead         : Galena ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || alloy material, has native spawn
  • Mangan    : Bog Iron ore, Braunstein ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || comes as steel variant
  • Mercury    : Cinnabar ore || bottle || no specialty
  • Nickel       : Garnierite ore, Nickeline ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel || has native spawn
  • Platin        : no ores || ingots, ounces, nuggets || has native spawn
  • Silver        : Akanthit ore, Stromeyerite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel || has native spawn, has gloss variants
  • Steel         : no ores || ingots, ounces || alloy result
  • Tin            : Stannite ore, Cassiterite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel || alloy material
  • Titan         : Ilmenite ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || comes as steel variant
  • Zinc          : Sphalerite ore, Zinkit ore || ingots, ounces, nuggets, gravel, roasted gravel || alloy material

II. Stones:

  • Stone variants are: Basalt, Bluestone, Diabase, White Granite, Jade, Limestone, Marble, Quartzite, Ocher Sandstone, Slate, Tuff

III. Organics:

  • All organic variants serve as fuel, except Sulfur, Saltpeter and Methane
  • Organic variants are: Bitumen, Black Coal, Brown Coal, Graphite, Oil, Pitch, Sulfur, Saltpeter, Methane(as gas)
  • Methane is special since it exists as air block, and adds a huge element of danger to the game when mining(see changelog 0.5 for info)

IV. Naturals:

  • Natural variants are: canvas, fossil bone, fur, glue, tinder
  • canvas, and tinder have no purpose other than material base

V. Gems:

  • Gem variants are: Agate, Amethyst, Aquamarine, Azurite, Beryllium, Citrine, Diamond, Emerald, Garnet, Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, Morion, Onyx, Ruby, Saphire, Topaz
  • Diamond, Emerald, and Lapis Lazuli use vanilla resource

Why do you limit yourself to those materials? I see no "modern" materials!

Because the original mods scope was evolving around pre industrial metallurgy standards, and was strongly inspired by Georgius Agricola, and his writings. So in return, all materials that were not used during the ancient/medieval/renaissance eras, are not covered. The best example here is Aluminum, which there is virtually no way to get it, without electricity. I also found that the way Minecraft Survival was played, had a strong inclination for pre industrial metallurgy logics. I loved the idea of combining the whole survival aspect with "rudimentary" metallurgy. I do however not exclude adding more material variants in future versions.

What's with all the other parts of your past mod?

As mentioned before they are within De Re Metallica.

Will you update for 1.16.5, 1.17, and beyond?

The port to 1.17.1 has already been forwarded, but since most of the mods I'm playing are not updated to 1.17.1, the update to 1.18.1 is postboned for the future.

You've mentioned Oil lakes, and "native" drops?

Well, it basically is exactly that. Oil lakes which you can yield oil from. Natural item drops of all stone, and nugget variants, as indicator for equivalent materials to be found when digging into the ground, at this position. So if you find a Silver nugget somewhere on the ground, there's a high chance you will find more of it on lower layers.

Any configuration options?

Yes, the mod comes with two configuration files. One for the whole ore generation feature, and one for all other options. The ore configuration allows you to import, and generate any possible ore, from any possible mod you've installed, as long as you know the ore ID. Just use the preset configuration file as template to add custom ores, and use an array list to exclude vanilla ores, if you want to, like that ["vanillaOreID01", "vanillaOreID02", "vanillaOreID03"]. In order to use the preset you will need to start the game once, exit, and start again to allow writing the default ore configuration. From there you're good to go.

Why are there no recipes?

Because this is a material library that only provides items and blocks. There are loot tables for blocks though.

Is this save to be used for servers?

Yes, up until version 0.5.3 it was only working for "Open to LAN" servers, but since version 0.5.4 should have full server support. There might still be some visual bugs.

Please, I need to exactly know what you changed and added from the beginning!

The ReadMe for 0.3 version(1.7.2)

Name: Material Evolution Mod for Minecraft 1.7.10
Version: 0.3 - BETA
Category: Minerals, Ores, Metallurgy, Survival, Evolution and much more!
Requirements: Latest Version Forge for Minecraft 1.7.10

News:
=====

Version 0.3 - BETA is live. Probably the biggest update to come. There's a tons of new features, materials and devices added. The whole metallurgy aspect has been given six new devices: campfire, kiln, firepit, roaster, bloomery and stove. All devices have their own purpose and you can no longer smelt materials/ressources in the furnace. The clay furnace has been removed in favor for the firepit. Use the campfire and stove for food processing. Use the roaster and bloomery to process ores and smelt metals. Use the kiln to process wooden logs into charcoal. Use the firepit to melt native metals into ingots which can then be forged into any possible tool or weapon. I highly recommend using Crafting Guid Mod in conjunction with Material Evolution to figure all the recipes. A new ressource is crude oil which can be found in lakes on the surface. It's used to make fuel for torches and other devices. The vanilla achievement tree has been merged with the original custom achievement tree, and I've added 54 new achievements. Achievements are now not only used as little gimmick, but should act like an ingame guide on how to play the Mod. Read the whole log of changes:

so it will probably interfere with every other mod that is changing world/ore generation, and vanilla recipes.

Known Issues or Bugs:
====================

None critical I'm aware of. Let me know if you found something. But remember this is BETA, so there's probably some I've overlooked.

The FAQ for 0.3 version:

How do I start? I can't get any tools?

The first tool you wanna get is the Digstick. You'll need two sticks and one string (silk) for this. With the Digstick you can get Flintstone. Build Flintstone Ax from one stick and one Flintstone. Then you want to get your first furnace, the clay furnace. You'll need clay and flintstone for that. Then you wanna build your first workbench, you'll need clay bricks and wooden blanks for this. Now you can also cook food and make coal to build water filter to gain water. The usage of the clay furnace is limited to low temperature metals and glass. In order to build the regular furnace you'll need cobblestone and Graphite. Graphite can't easily be harvested with flintstone, so you'll need a Hardlead Pickaxe. With the help of a Flintstone Ax, search for soft minerals (like Stibnite, Sphalerite, Galena and Stannite) that produce the metals Lead, Tin and Antimon, or Lead, Zinc and Antimon to produce Hardlead Pickaxe. This is your first "better" Pickaxe which can be used to mine for harder minerals. From there, only your imagination limits your ascent.

I can't be harvesting any blocks?

Like in adventure mode, you'll need the correct tools in order to harvest blocks. If not used the correct tool, you'll get nothing from the blocks.

Which Seeds do you recommend?

Complete changelog for Material Library after it has been split from De Re Metallica(Version 0.4, Minecraft 1.16.4 and beyond):

initial release 30.11.2021, version 0.4:initial release 30.11.2021, version 0.4:
- ported from 1.7.1 to 1.16.4 MC Forge- changed from overhaul to library mod
release 19.11.2021, version 0.4.1:
- fixed miss calculated burnTime for custom .items- removed/fixed some wrong recipe conditions etc.- added missing bottle stack/damage variables from past version- changed stack size of oil bucket from 16 to 1, to stay in line with vanilla stack sizes of bucket items- added missing detrimental entity effects when drowning in Oil- removed entirely any recipe, item tag and loot table content, in favor of letting child mod decide what to do with the library content
release 20.11.2021, version 0.4.2:
- fixed missing surface rock spawn- fixed missing loot tables for crucial blocks(i'm sorry)
release 26.11.2021, version 0.4.3:
- added new alloy: Brass- fixed all vanilla equal ores not dropping vanilla items- added luck based drop variants(quantity incresion) for gold, copper, lapis lazuli, lead, nickel, platin, and silver- limited most ores(not stone types and natives) to y-axis 1-64(sea level), to mimic vanilla ore distribution- hardest material ores(korund variants(sapphire, ruby) and diamond for example) will spawn even deeper 1-32/48- raised size of ore veins for various ores/minerals, most notably coal variants, bogiron, and sulfur, to mimic real life distribution- added Brass ounces- raised default oil lake spawn chance by 33%
release 27.11.2021, version 0.4.4:
- removed entity drop handler(dropping fur) in favor of upcoming De Re Metallica Mod- removed the damage logic for bottle items Bitumen and Mercury in favor of handling quantity with smelting recipes in De Re Metallica
release 5.12.2021, version 0.4.5:
- added missing experience drop to beryllium ore(Bromellite)- lowered the spawn rate of Bitumen Ore by 33%- matlib custom sandstone is now named "Ocher Sandstone", will drop its custom item version, and is reinstalled in world generation- matlib custom granite is now named "White Granite", will drop its custom item version, and is reinstalled in world generation- added block .classes for custom granite, and sandstone, to give more customization options, due to their duplicant nature of existing granite/sandstone- custom sandstone and granite will be placed as rocks as well- refined some code for more efficiency- removed some obsolete code- reordered some of the code for better visual structurization- luck based (modded)ore drops are now randomized(not constant) with potentially higher range- added proper fluid tag data generation- added custom fluid tags for oil- changed stack size of oil bucket from 1 to 16, since vanilla vanilla actually stacks for 16 as well <- "you fool"!- increased spawn size of custom granite and sandstone- bucket with oil is now named "Crude Oil", like in the original past version- fixed ore config file being replaced after customization, it will check now if an ore config is present and empty(<= length 100) to install the default setup- increased spawn rate of Galena, which is one of the most wide spread minerals in reality- significantly raised spawn rates and size of stone variants: Slate(48, 5),   Basalt(36, 4), White Granite(52, 6), Limestone(28, 4), Quartzite(18, 5), Diabase(18, 2), Ocher Sandstone(42, 5), Tuff(16, 4)  release 10.12.2021, version 0.5.0:
- black coal, brown coal, bitumen, and graphite blocks can now catch, and spread fire(quite slowly). they will also drop their loot when exploding(not bitumen)- fixed flammability not correctly working for crude oil- if oil is on fire when raining, fire will no longer stop burning- fire around and on top of oil will now act less aggressively consuming oil- added new material type(gas): methane...it exists as invisible air block, and can be toggled rendering particles in debug view -> methane can explode,  catch fire(rapidly), and will massively increase the chance of exploding coal/bitumen variants, when close to methane(in upcoming De Re Metallica Mod) ...obviously it is also a poison, and will make it impossible to breath which can quickly lead to death...however, there ARE indicators for its presence... it is limited to spawn in cave_air lower then y60, don't place torches beside it, or anything else that causes fire, you will most likely trigger  chain reactions without proper precaution- added new mineral Arsenic...it is poisonous when held in any hand, without wearing gloves(chestplate <- yes, I know it hasn't gloves, but that's the equivalent. I did not create Minecraft). it exists natively, has all item types(gravel, nuggt etc.), and its minerals are: Arsenopyrite, Orpiment, and Realgar release 18.12.2021, version 0.5.1:
- updated to Minecraft 1.16.5- raised chance of native metals spawning on the surface by 50%
release 24.12.2021, version 0.5.2:
changes to 1.16.5 and 1.17.1
- if you dive in oil, you will no longer be able to see anything(player render turned pitch black)...you can't even see your own hand- methane will now slowly expand towards the ceiling of a cave, so its "relatively" safe around the bottom, but no around ceilings!- added config options to enable/disable methane gas flowing to the ceiling, and the chance of flow movement per tick
changes to 1.17.1 only
- updated to Minecraft 1.17.1- fixed ore distribution no longer considering min vein and max vein level(caused by new ore distribution logic)- methane gas will now replace air instead of cave_air, since cave_air does no longer seem present in 1.17.1- fixed oil bucket not making any sound when filled(it uses the lava fill sound)- all softer stone block variants will now use the "tuff" sound type instead of "stone", to stay in line with MC sound- added all custom block variants, that needed to, to the minecraft mineable tag(excluding rock dummys, oil and gas blocks)- adapted all block strength(formerly hardnessAndResistance) to new values, 0.5 is very soft(calcit), 3.0 is very hard(metal and korund types), exploResRange is between 3-10.0- Tuff is now named Orange Tuff, as alternative to vanilla Tuff- if you ask: "why are there no changes to vanilla Copper and Amethyst? Also raw Metals?"...I'm still struggling how to deal with it, but in matlib it will stay like it is there is no copper nugget introduced, and copper ingot is treated in DRM, also vanilla Amethyst is dealing with geodes, while my version is about the mineral and gemstone I see no reason why they can't coexist- adapted all block textures to new texture standard introduced with 1.17 minecraft, the exception here are : slate, tuff, and red sandstone, as they did not really fit in the  new look, this certainly needs more rebalance, as I already figured my slate, tuff and diabase variants looked terrible with the new textures release 24.12.2021, version 0.5.3:
(1.6.5 only)
- fixed methane block appearing visible- fixed methane block not taking config gasflow value into account
(1.17.1 only)
- fixed wrong minecraft version number internally
(for all versions)
- added a upper limit of y60 for methane gas to flow upside
