Potion effects not properly being removed

When I put on 2 of the same ring (speed, for instance) then replace one with another ring type, without taking the ring off first (say, resistance) I still keep the speed 2 effect in addition to gaining the resistance. This allows you to have Speed 2, Resistance 1 at the same time.
Also, you can play with it so you actually have a ton of additional level 1 effects, as seen in this screenshot. Persists through leaving the game and rejoining, playing on single-player.
Off-topic: I really like the mod, but it feels a little unbalanced currently. The base ring is fairly cheap to make, and you can get Speed 2/Resistance 2 extremely easily, Haste 2 is pretty quick as well, and normally all of these things are locked behind a full powered beacon. (assuming you are playing Vanilla-ish).
Is it possible to change the recipe so it requires the potions themselves to make the ring? Is there a mod that lets you modify other mods recipes? This would at least ensure that you've been to and successfully looted a nether fortress before you get access to the rings.
Step further, if you're running botania or have another non-potionfingers ring that can be hotbar-equipped on:
- Equip 2 resistance rings
- replace-swap the bottom one off in baubles interface with a botania ring
- unequip botania ring and put in hotbar
- right click botania ring
permanent resistance 2.
