If you walk down a "staircase" like this you will make no footstep sounds (unlike in vanilla)

This is because you're technically in the air. If you stand on the edge of a block and jump you also make no noise. If you go into third person you'll notice your avatar is fully not on the block, if you then move your camera 90 degrees horizontally so you put 1 leg on the block you start making footsteps sounds again.
