Scorch

Scorch is a mod for Fabric which adjusts several aspects of the Nether and introduces some new functional blocks. Initially conceived as a gunpowder rebalance, it branched off into something larger.

Feature Overview

Pyrack

  • Pyrack is found above ground in the Crimson Forest, Nether Wastes, and Soul Sand Valley. It's found below ground (around netherite layer) in every biome.
  • Pyrack drops gunpowder when mined without silk touch.
  • If Pyrack interacts with a flame bow, flint and steel, fire charges, fire, fireballs, or explosions, it will detonate.
  • Most things detonate it instantly, but fire blocks will burn it slowly before it suddenly detonates.
  • Pyrack is useful when netherite mining, as you will find ores that you can detonate to help clear space.
  • Pyrack also drops a lot of experience, so it's optimal for repairing mending tools by mining it.
  • Pyrack makes the nether a bit more dangerous, as you wouldn't want to be near it if a ghast is shooting you. You'd also want to keep away from veins of Pyric Netherrack if there is lava or fire nearby, as it could detonate at any moment.
  • It's also fun to shoot clusters of Pyrack with a flame bow.
  • Update v1.1.0: Pyrack is slightly less explosive than before to reduce the amount of random explosions in the nether.
  • Update v1.1.0: Shooting Pyrack with a flame bow grants an achievement.
  • Update v1.1.1: Deflecting a ghast fireball into Pyrack grants an achievement.

Ignistone

  • Ignistone is meant to act as a replacement for the single pockets of lava that spawn underground.
  • Ignistone spawns deep underground (around the netherite layer).
  • If broken, it will turn into lava. You can avoid this by mining it with Silk Touch.
  • Ignistone indicates the presence of a 10-sized ancient debris patch nearby. If you're finding Ignistone, excavate the area and you'll find this large debris patch. The closer you are, the more Ignistone you'll find.
  • Ignistone can be made manually by placing Crying Obsidian above a lava source block.
  • Ignistone can be useful as it allows you to transport large amounts of lava somewhere without the use of buckets.
  • Update v1.1.0: Successfully mining Ignistone with Silk Touch grants an achievement.

Update v1.1.0 - Strider Additions

  • Strider can be sheared, giving a bit of string and turning the Strider bald. This grants an achievement.
  • Bald striders will eventually grow back their hair, but only if they aren't cold.
  • You can accelerate the hair growth process by feeding Striders warped roots.
  • Applying magma to striders with hair will cycle through various hair styles. This also grants an achievement.
  • You can now remove saddles from Striders by using shears. Note that this means you cannot shear a strider while it has a saddle on it.

Update v1.2.0 - The Wither Sanctum

  • Wither Sanctums are a new structure which will spawn somewhat commonly in Soul Sand Valleys, uncommonly in the Nether Wastes, and rarely in the Crimson Forest. They can be tricky to find at times so keep an eye out!
  • Wither Skeletons will sometimes spawn in the Wither Sanctum.
  • Each Wither Sanctum contains one wither skeleton skull, and chests which contain miscellaneous loot.
  • There's an extremely rare chance netherite scrap will spawn in the chests.
  • Finding a Wither Sanctum grants an achievement.

Additional Features

  • Detonating netherrack with TNT gives it a 6% chance of dropping gunpowder. This means you can renew gunpowder easily, especially if you're Netherite Mining with TNT. Just don't forget to bring plenty of sand!
  • Underground Nether Lava is significantly reduced, intended to be replaced by the presence of Pyrack and Ignistone.
  • Very rarely you'll find a vein of 10 ancient debris. You'll know a large ancient debris vein is nearby if you are finding Ignistone in the area.
  • Update v1.1.0: Amount of large debris pockets very slightly reduced.
  • Crying Obsidian can be placed up to 10 blocks above lava sources to create Ignistone, or above flowing lava to create netherrack.
  • Update v1.1.0: Piglins barter saddles to make it easier to saddle your Striders.
  • Update v1.1.0: The fog in the nether is pushed back a bit, allowing you to see further. This is compatible with the NoFog mod.  This is not compatible with OptiFabric however and will be disabled if you have OptiFabric installed.
  • Update v1.1.1: Warped Fungus on a Stick recipe is shapeless.
  • Update v1.2.0: Ghasts will not randomly despawn while you're fighting one.
  • Update v1.2.0: Killing a wither skeleton using a ghast fireball will have a 100% chance of dropping a wither skeleton skull. This will also grant an achievement.
  • Update v1.2.0: Wither skeleton skulls will no longer burn in fire or lava to prevent them from being destroyed randomly while wither skull farming.
  • Update v1.2.0: Spectral arrows have been buffed so they deal extra damage against mobs averse to spectral effects. These include ghasts, vexes, phantoms, and the wither.
  • Update v1.2.0: The mod now comes with a config file which allows you to adjust the spawn rate of Pyrack, and disable/enable the nether fog changes.
  • Update v1.2.0: Beacon range extended by about 50%

Requirements

This mod requires the Relevant Fabric API and Fabric Loader.

Recommended Mods

Since Piglins barter for Saddles, I highly recommend using the Lenient Stack Size mod so your inventory doesn't fill up with saddles when bartering.
