ShieldRework reworks the shields added in vanilla Minecraft 1.9 cosmetically and functionally, allowing you as the player to focus less on the shield taking up a quarter of your screen and more on building and PvP.
Created by Vox. Check out his other mods on Github!
Inspired by DireWolf20 and the ForgeCraft2 crew.
Features:
Shields now take up less screen space in first person (both hands) and have changed transforms for third person. Though some of these visual effects could be modified by a resource pack, that would also change the position of the shield during blocking.
Shields are now configurable to lower when holding a block, or to lower always, or to completely hide the shield altogether. This configuration works for a shield held in both hands.
Download/Installation:
ShieldRework requires Minecraft 1.9 and Forge 1887 or later. Just drop it in your mods folder and get ready to play!
Planned:
More shields! Each shield would have a custom durability and other mechanics specific to it. Currently, the planned shield types are bone, which would be similar to wood but cosmetically different, as well as several metallic shields, which would have a chance to reflect blaze projectiles, arrows, or ghast fireballs.
If playing only with ShieldRework, only an iron shield would be added, but if you're playing with a mod that adds bronze or steel, shield options will be added for those as well with different traits.
Right now, new features are awaiting an update to forge that will expose the way that shields and banners are rendered to modders, so that we can render new types of shields, banners, and other items that would use this system. Until then, no new shields will correctly render due to Minecraft restrictions.
