What Is This?
This project will host the 4.x versions of Silent's Gems: Base until Minecraft 1.17 releases. These builds are not compatible with earlier versions! Attempting to "update" an existing world will cause many (but not all) blocks and items to disappear. This is a major rewrite of Silent's Gems, which splits the mod into multiple parts.
Why?
For more details on why this is being done, please check this issue and this one. Basically, splitting the mod into more parts allows mod packs to tailor their mod list to suit their needs. So, all the simple stuff like ores, building blocks, Silent Gear materials/traits, and some of the less weird utility items will be in Silent's Gems: Base. The more overpowered (and sometimes buggier or less beginner-friendly) mechanics, such as chaos, will be moved to a new mod called Silent's Gems: Chaos. The Token Enchanter has also been moved to its own mod.
The reduced set of 16 gems allows more attention to be given to each. Every gem has a purpose, instead of some being useful only for building blocks or as repair fodder.
Many blocks have updated textures!
Requirements
Silent Lib is required and must be installed. Silent Gear is not required, but recommended for the full experience. Installing JEI is strongly recommended.
What Does Gems Base 4.x Contain?
- A reduced set of 16 gems. Some are commonly found in other mods (ruby, sapphire, etc.) and some are more unique (such as the diamond variants).
- Gem blocks, bricks, glass, and lamps (regular and inverted)
- Glowroses
- Gem bag, which picks up and stores any item in the forge:gems tag (including items from vanilla and other mods)
- Flower basket, which picks up and stores any item in the minecraft:flowers tag (replaces the glowrose basket)
- Food items from classic versions
- Pet summoners
- Silent Gear compatibility (same built-in support as before; no additional data packs required)
- Soul gems (incomplete at time of writing)
- Gear souls (not implemented at time of writing)
What About Fluffy Puffs?
They have been moved to Silent Gear. Seeds come from the wild version of the plants, which spawn in less-dry biomes. They are relatively easy to find.
Token Enchanter and Enchantment Tokens?
Moved to its own mod, Token Enchanter. The way it works has changed and is described on the project page.
Where To Find Gems
The sixteen gems are split across the three vanilla dimensions and overlap somewhat. Some of the gems found in the Nether and the End can occasionally be found in the overworld.
There is a gem ore block that matches all three dimensions. You can configure the mod to generate any gem in any dimension, and with whatever frequency you like. You can even disable specific gems from ever generating, if that is what you want.
You can find the default distributions as of version 4.0.2 here.
Roles
Each gem fits into a handful of "roles." Gems usually are stronger in their role's stats, and equal to other gems of the same dimension in other stats (at least with default ore configs). Every gem still has unique traits.
- Durability - Higher durability and armor durability. Good for repairs and AOE harvest tools (hammer, excavator).
- Ruby, Carnelian
- Speed - Higher harvest speed. Good for harvest tools (pickaxe, shovel, axe, etc.)
- Topaz, Citrine, Heliodor
- Damage - Higher melee and ranged damage. Good for weapons (swords, bows, etc.)
- Peridot, Moldavite, Rose Quartz
- Armor - Higher armor stats. Good for... armor.
- Sapphire, Iolite, Ammolite
- All-Rounder - Above average in most stats. Good if you need a mix of different stats.
- Turquoise, Kyanite, Alexandrite, Black/White Diamond
Rarer Gems
Some gems are rarer than others. The two diamond variants are also notably strong in all stats, unlike most gems, but are also harder to find. Having a hammer and prospector hammer from Silent Gear will make the process much easier.
- Black Diamonds - These spawn somewhat low in the Nether, and less frequently than other gems. You should find plenty while digging for ancient debris. They are dark in color with a slightly orange hue.
- White Diamonds - These spawn somewhat low in the End, meaning you will need to dig around to find them. They are pale in color with a slightly violet hue.
