So I love this mod, and actually really don't want to get rid of it. It's amazing, and is everything I've always wanted out of Minecraft's weather system. But, there's a catch unfortunately: Storms last far, FAR too long.
In vanilla MC, rain and thunderstorms are somewhat uncommon, but clear up after a day or so. And clear up instantly if you sleep. This is obviously difficult to implement when storms physically move through the world. but this mod takes storms to an extreme.
Even with Elytra, flying over a storm can take multiple in game days, even as I type this I'm afk gliding over a storm in creative just to see how massive it, and even at 32 chunks render distance, I can't find the edge.
In one particular world, I spawned in the middle of a thunder storm, boxed myself up, went out for almost 4 real life hours to watch a movie and get some necessities, came back, and the storm was still there, with no end in sight.
Storms should be big and imposing. It adds to the feel. And while you can modify the likelyhood of storms spawning, they seem to exist for an infinite period of time.
Perhaps each storm should keep track of its life time, and it should "die" after 1-3 days of existing, with a chance of a new one spawning in later on using a similar system.
I assume this mod is using a sort of map system to determine what the weather and cloud types are in a particular area. Maybe integrate a little bit of vanilla logic in that each quadrant of clouds is its own localized "cell" of weather, each with a random chance of being clear, rainy, or stormy with all the other variables in use, and adjust itself accordingly.
once a weather cells lifetime expires, some good numbers, in my opinion, would be:
Clear weather
75% chance to stay clear, 20% chance to transition to normal rain, 5% chance to transition to thunder
Rainy weather:
60% chance to transition to clear, 30% chance to remain rainy, 10% chance to transition to thunder
Thundering weather:
50% chance to transition to clear, 30% chance to transition to rainy, 20% chance to remain thundering
The game should always lean more into clear weather, as that's ideal for gameplay, and makes rain seem more like an event rather than a nuisance.
There can even be a random value assigned for how long it'll take for weather to transition, with clouds adjusting densities and sizes over time until it matches the weather it's changing to, making storms more unpredictable, but still noticeable before they hit. Even gradually adjusting the rain intensity (which seems to already exist) until it matches what it wants.
These are all just brainstormed ideas to make storms less long and intrusive, because it's hard to enjoy a hardcore playthrough when it's a thunderstorm literally 24/7 at your base, or knowing it could have a storm roll over that lasts an eternity to move on.
