The book doesn't currently mention that these can be automated by opening/closing with redstone.

Mercury Distiller makes it clear things can be piped in

Vats imply the only way to close it to start it is a sneak right click

This could probably be spread onto two pages to make it easier to read and give you the room to add the information.
