The 1.21 build doesn't work on 1.21.1, so this was indeed necessary for me

that seems like an awful lot of work compared to just dropping the official dev build of that branch into your mods folder with no changes or compilation needed.

I just want to quickly mention that using the mc/1.21 branch you can build it yourself and if you want 1.21.1 support change these two lines in the gradle/libs.versions.toml

minecraft = "1.21.1"
fabricApi = "0.103.0+1.21.1"
