Hi!
I have made this modpack in the attempt to reshape Minecraft into a more similar game, to the one I fell in love with back in late 2011. This modpack aims to make Minecraft a more scary, but also wonderous experience. There is plenty of options for exploration, adventure, combat and new challenges.
The modpack features difficult mobs with improved AI, that will get stronger with each passing in-game day and also some new monsters from Minecraft Dungeons.
The early game has been made more of a challenge than a mere speedrun. Both the End and the Nether have been revamped with new structures and content, and their accessibility has been hindered with new resources, which the player must venture out into the world and gather, in order to progress. Ores have become more rare, and poorer in minerals. In this modpack most ores will only drop nuggets that can be crafted into ingots, hopefully making the rush to endgame a more rewarding journey. All vanilla structures have been revamped and will provide a new experience, while still remaining true to what Minecraft is at it's core.
The world is a much darker place in RetroSurvival. MUCH darker. You are not able to skip the night with a bed, and the mobs are scarier and sound it too! But luckily you'll have voicechat so that you and your friends hopefully can overcome the tasks ahead of you together, should you be afriad to face them on your own.
CHANGES TO THE VANILLA GAME:
There are some changes to the vanilla game, that I personally have felt was needed in order to achieve a game reminiscent of what Minecraft used to be.
These are the following:
- Removal of Phantoms and Shulkers. (Phantoms are a pure annoyance, and it is a personal preference of mine, that they are out of the game. Shulkers have a deeper meaning behind their removal. The shulker boxes are in my opinion too overpowered in the vanilla game. The amount of transferables one is able to have with shulkerboxes is too much, and so the Shulker mob has been removed from RetroSurvival)
- Mob AI has been improved. (Certain monsters are now a lot tougher, and are able to do things they aren't in the vanilla game)
- Mending has been nerfed. (The Mending enchantment has been nerfed. This means Mending has lost it's current vanilla ability to repair an item with experience. In RetroSurvival, the enchantment will allow the player to repair armor/weapons/tools with mending in an anvil and keep the required resources for the reparation, and only spend experience, until the item becomes too expensive to repair. The reason for this change is that the Mending enchantment is simply too powerful, and allows the player to obtain a single set of gear and tools and never have to mine again. In RetroSurvival, you wil have to continue gathering resources in order to keep up your arsenal)
- No more Elytra-Boosting. (Rockets have lost the ability to boost the elytra. In RetroSurvival elytras will only function as gliders. The reason behind this change is that Elytraboosting renders all other means of transportation in the game useless once you hit endgame. Minecarts, horses, boats etc. are all useless in the late game. As much as I love flying with elytras myself, they are are form of transportation which is just too overpowered)
- Totems have been nerfed. (Totems will still have the same effect as in the vanilla game, however, Evokers will now drop "unactivated totems" which the player will have to use to craft the normal totems. This recipe will also require other resources, making totems less common and less easy to farm)
- Villagers have been nerfed. (Villagers now have a comfort system, which makes it so they now have requirements in order to have cheaper prices. This makes villager farms less easy to construct and less overpowered)
- True Darkness has been added. (The Mod "True Darkness" has been added to RetroSurvival, making the game much MUCH darker than the vanilla version. The exception being under the moonlight, where the world will be normally bright. This makes for a more immersive, and also scary experience.
- Ores have become more rare. (The ores of the world have become slightly more rare, and will now only give the player nuggets to then later be crafted into ingots. This makes for a slower paced early game, hindering the rush to the late game that modern day players are prone to)
- Combat has been revamped. (The Minecraft combat system has been a touchy subject ever since the changes made to it in 1.9. In RetroSurvival, I have used a Mod called "Better Combat" which features combat similar to that of Minecraft Dungeons, in order to compromise between the old and the current forms of combat)
- More ambience has been added. (RetroSurvival features many editions in the forms of new sounds and music, in order to make the game a little more immersive than the vanilla version)
