Dokucraft, The Saga Continues

Dokucraft is one of the oldest Minecraft resource packs that are still around. It is maintained entirely by the community, anyone can contribute, and it comes in multiple flavours based on different styles of fantasy. The pack is mainly inspired by old school RPGs, like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

History

The pack was first released by Doku in April 2011 for Minecraft Beta 1.5. Doku kept working on the pack until July, when he announced that he would no longer continue it and that the assets were free to use for other packs.

Previously, Doku had discontinued another texture pack called Doku RPG in a similar way, and when it happened, a dozen remix packs popped up that tried to continue it in their own ways, and most of them were discontinued in only a few months.

To avoid this happening with Dokucraft and instead focus the community's efforts to continue the original pack, as opposed to some strange mix of older packs, HickeryDickery created The Saga Continues project.

The Saga Continues originally focused on just finishing the pack as it was missing quite a few textures when it was discontinued, and then to update it when new game updates came out. It was open for everyone to help, anyone could contribute, as long as it fit the pack's style and rules. In just a few months, over a thousand textures had been posted by over a hundred contributors.

Since then, we have expanded from three flavours only for Java Edition to four flavours both on Java and Bedrock, and over 20,000 textures in total have been submitted by over 500 contributors.

DokuStash

Keeping track of and organizing so many textures and contributors eventually became a problem with the continuation project.

DokuStash first started as a collection of textures made for the continuation project, a zip file containing all textures posted in the project's forum thread. Its goal was to make it easier for people to find existing textures, because before it, the only way to find old textures was to go back through the forum thread, which ended up being over 1,600 pages by the end, and find it there.

The stash has changed quite a lot since it started. It is now a website, and the primary tool used for keeping track of and organizing all of the assets for the pack. It has advanced search features that makes it easy to find exactly what you're looking for. It is also used to track the progress towards a new update, and it can list all of the project's contributors, and how much they have contributed.

Want to help?

Anyone can contribute to the project. That includes you. Even if you don't know how to create textures or other assets needed for the pack, there are community members willing to help you learn how. We also have a quick start guide to get you going with resource pack editing.

If you need any help, feel free to ask us any questions in our Discord server. If you are not sure if a texture you have made is good enough, you can post it in the appropriate Discord channel and ask for feedback. Someone will hopefully take a good look at it and help you make it better. Remember to always be open to criticism, it will help you improve.

If you don't know what to work on, you can always check our update status page or ask on Discord. If you want to find textures posted by others, check out DokuStash.

Individual assets

Dokucraft, The Saga Continues (TSC) assets are made by the community, and every contributor decides what their assets can and can't be used for. If an asset is contributed to TSC, the only base requirements added onto it is that it may be used in any resource packs on this website and derivative works of it may be created by other contributors if it is for TSC.

This means that we, as a group, can't just give people permission to use most things in the pack for whatever they want. If you want to use a TSC asset for something that is not strictly private, you will have to ask whoever made it.

An exception to this rule exists for anything directly from the original Dokucraft packs by Doku. When Doku discontinued the packs, he explained that all of the textures in them are free to use for anything.

If you have found an asset that you want to use and you're not sure who made it, feel free to ask in the #dokucraft channel in our Discord server.

If you want permission to use a lot of assets from the packs, just know that getting it might be a lot of work, just because they might be made by a lot of different people.

Resource packs

Everything above applies to all assets in the packs, see that first if you skipped right here.

  • You may use the resource pack in a YouTube video, but please provide a link to https://dokucraft.co.uk/ in the video or description. Doing so helps the continuation project stay alive, and it might stop some comments asking where you got the pack.
  • You may use the resource pack as an official resource pack for your server, however a link to https://dokucraft.co.uk/ must be provided and the download must not be behind adf.ly or similar ad links.
  • You may not use the resource pack for any commercial purposes or put it behind adf.ly or similar ad links.
