This is my first map. I hope you find it enjoyable. Thank you for taking the time to check it out!
This is a survival map that puts you in a confined space of 42x42 blocks surrounded by twenty mob spawning pads. The pads have glass overhead, so when the sun is up the spawning will stop until night returns. The area in the 42x42 space contains a one block thick layer of lots of sand, gravel, clay, dirt, four torches, and two water source blocks. The entire structure is constructed with bedrock.
The goal of the map is to establish and expand your controlled territory and deal with the heavy mob spawns in the process.
Some of the obsidian included will allow you to go to the Nether because I wanted to allow for the access of brewing materials found there. You'll find that the Nether world has not been edited at all.
The ZIP file includes two versions of the map. One generates what I felt was an acceptable yet challenging amount of mob spawns using mob spawning pads 4x8 in size. You can find it in the "Close Quarters" save folder. The other, "Close Quarters - More Mobs", generates even more mobs by using 7x8 spawning pads, for those of you seeking a more difficult experience.
Update Notes
Version 1.01
- Removed the blaze rod, soul sand, and Nether wart from the starting chest.
- Added a stack of redstone to the starting chest.
Version 1.02
- Fixed an issue where returning to the Overworld from the Nether would generate a new portal outside the map play area.
Rules
- No sleeping
- Do not place any blocks inside the mob spawn zone or on top of any bedrock blocks that surround the play area.
- Do not break any of the stone blocks in the mob spawn zone.
- Build only within the bedrock that borders the space in which you originally spawn. You can build up toward the sky as far as you'd like as long as you stay within the bedrock boundary.
- Building upward in order to avoid dealing with the mobs is discouraged.
- Play on any difficulty other than peaceful.
Challenges
- Build a house (more than just a shack!)
- Apply a level 30 enchant to at least one item.
- Gain control of the entire area inside the borders.
- Construct a means of safely and easily farming the mobs for resources and/or experience.
Challenges subject to lucky mob drops
- Build a carrot farm
- Build a potato farm
- Assemble a full suit of iron armor
Known issues
- There is a chance you will spawn outside the bedrock border. I've only had this occur one time when I spawned on top of the mob pads. I'm not sure how to fix this, but will be looking into a solution.
If you encounter any other issues, please mention it in this thread and include as much information as possible. Thanks!
