A while ago an acquaintance of mine suggested it would be neat to design a PVP arena. I went into the project, (without any real knowledge of command blocks, redstone mechanics, or even the basic principles of a large-scale Creative project), with the intention of making a simple arena.

Naturally, things spiraled out of control; it had to have a proper scoreboard, and spawn areas, and a control room, and potion turrets, and explosives, a target range... and so on and so forth. The end result is sure to be a mess, but it's definitely been a great learning experience- and hopefully an interesting one.

The Arena is finally finished! You can download it and try it out to your heart's content!

MtM's Modular PVP arena consists of the following:

  • A whole lot of extremely messy machinery.
  • Two different Arenas; a Large (80*80m), and Small (48*48m) version. Each arena has toggleable two and four player mode.
  • Four different themes for each Arena, each with unique mechanics. (Overgrown, Molten, Aquatic, and End respectively.)
  • Randomly Generated Arenas; Each section of the Arena, (With the exception of corner, center, and start tiles) is selected randomly from 8 different terrain tiles, and then randomly rotated to one of four orientations. Individual tiles can be modified and saved within the world.
  • CQC Minigame, for no apparent reason.
  • Target Range w/combo timers and randomized targets, (same reason as the above)
  • Test Ring to load/modify individual terrain tiles.
  • Functional Scoreboards for each Arena; each scoreboard tracks the number of lives each player has remaining, and can also be manually changed from the Control room. The Large Scoreboard also has a toggleable timer system that increases the longer a player has gone w/out dying. These took much longer to make than you'd expect.
  • Daylight Cycle (Morning/Noon/Twilight/Midnight) controls; and Weather, (Sun/Rain/Storm/Pigs) Controls. These also took much longer than you'd expect.
  • Save system for each arena. (Each Arena has three save slots that can be loaded and overwritten from control areas.)
  • Extremely ineffective (but mildly entertaining) potion cannons.
  • Extremely amazing lava moat that breaks whenever the aquatic arena is reset directly.
  • Lazy mechanism to manually fix the amazing lava moat whenever it breaks.
  • 6 Loadouts for players to try.
  • Special game modes, (Baby, God, and Mayhem mode), that bestow protective, overpowered, and randomized status effects on the players respectively.
  • Randomized Enemy Spawners in every terrain tile. Sections of spawners can be controlled individually, and a rudimentary cooldown mechanism prevents them from becoming too unfair when set to higher frequencies.
  • Explosive Rain, (because my brothers wanted it.)
  • And on an unrelated side note, blast proofing for all terrain components.

To try out the arena, download the attached file, grab the save file inside the ZIP, and move it to your personal saves folder. If this thing gets 1,000 downloads, (an unlikely prospect, I'll admit), I'll release another version with a Hordes minigame- and maybe some other stuff. In the meantime, I'm working on some other projects, which I intend to post shortly!
