Maze Madness
The concept of the whole maze originates from this concept. I decided to work it out further in a different way. I haven't uploaded it yet to bnet, because its not finished yet.
Gameplay
Powerups
This is an arcade like game where each player controls 1 unit. This unit can pick up powerups which can be used on the environment or on other players. At first sight, these powerups are all the same, but when picking one, you get a random powerup assigned. These powerups automatically respawn when there are too few of them. Currently, a player can only hold one powerup at a time.
Current powerups include:
- Bomb. Nuke like bomb which destroys players inside it and also can destroy part of the maze.
- Tile-turn ability. This ability allows the turning of all sides of a tile in clockwise direction, i.e. if a north wall exists for this tile, the north side will become the east side, etc.
- Tile-launch ability. This ability allows a player to select a tile which will be launched upwards. Players (and also the master-unit) standing on this particular tile will be sent to space, and after a few seconds return to a random spot in the maze.
- Laser strike. Charge your laser. Lift your enemy into the air, making him unable to move and attack.
- Stun. Stuns the player taking the powerup.
- Lightning explosion. Damages nearby units at the moment of pickup (except the player taking the powerup)
- Health powerup. A few are spawned only when a player has died.
- Bonus powerup. Gives a direct score increase.
Master unit
There is also a large unit which runs in a randomly way through the maze, crushing players standing in its way, which should be avoided obviously.
Items and rounds
Apart from the powerups, there are also items which have to be collected, i.e. bananas. If all of these items are collected, the round is ended and the player with the most items collected wins this round and get points awarded. When a round ends, everything on the current maze is destroyed and a new maze is generated. Again spawning everything.
A bar in the upper part of the screen keeps track of the overall amount of items collected by all players. A leaderboard keeps tracks of score and other stats.
The player with the highest score at the end wins.
Features
- In the lobby a maze size can be selected, i.e. 20x8 or 16x16, this represents the amount of maze-tiles in x and y direction. If no size is chosen, a square maze will be generated based on the amount of players in the game.
- Some custom graphics, sounds and music.
Possible future features
- More gameplay modes, i.e. capture the flag
- More customized gui, depending on future editor improvement by Blizzard (Hotkeys need to work while the Battle-UI is hidden)
