Spawn Defense is now online for StarCraft II. It is currently in beta mod an supports the following teams:
Solo - use player 5's buildings
1v1
2v1 or 2v2
3v2 or 3v3
I have tried to keep the essence of the game alive while adapting it to utilize the new units. I'm open to suggestion and encourage feedback.
Search for "Spawn D" and select Spawn Defense and have a ball with your friends.
For you newbies here is a quick tutorial:
Goal: To get 20 units to reach the end of the opposing teams maze
Setting Teams: Right now the beta is set to respond to player 1, 2, 3, etc instead of the teams you set in the lobby. So as of now the order in which you come in, or the order the party is set too, is how the teams will form. In other words, if the lobby looks like 3v1 it's really 2v2. There is a way to form a party to force the groups. It appears when adding to the party it pushes the new player to the "front" of the host's party queue. Use this to your advantage.
Generating Income: There are currently 5 buildings to spawn units; the 6th will be turned on when beta is over. The more units you generate the higher your income. It is important to have at least 1 big stack on your team. Note, the player with the lowest income is weighing down his team.
Receive Income: Your income is represented by the amount of gas you have. Every 60 seconds you gas will be added to your mineral count. (note to pros: because the minerals are no longer deducted in increments you'll have to adjust your strategies). You income is kept a secret until after the timer triggers. At that point, your current gas level will be public information and will get updated on the next countdown.
Mining: It is important to start mining at you nexus immediately. Mining helps you squeak out a few more units and can also help you build a few more crucial. There are 40 high yield minerals stacked for you to feed on. You can convert gas into another worker, but ultimately it's more important to have more gas.
Building: You get 2 OBSERVERS to build with so you can build in two places at once (this comes in handy with heavy towers). There are 4 types of towers available in Spawn Defense: Photon Cannon, Missile Turret, Spine Crawler, and Spore Crawler. Cannons must be placed near a pylon but can be stacked one on top of each other. The cannon's targeting system has been modified to support over 200 cannons stacked on top of each other. While this is good for strong units and light grouping it is still advisable to spread most of your turrets out. The missile turret and crawlers cannot be stacked but CAN be built on top of cannons. (note: missile turrets will be stackable soon).
The Maze: The path is predetermined and the paths are mirror images of one another, so everyone has a fair chance. If you're playing 1v1 or solo you should start on the bottom half and work up. For 2v2 and 3v3, you should spread out across the map. For a 3v3, it is almost vital to have 1 spawner and 2 defenders. But feel free to come up with your own strategies.
Beta Map: Although I have polished the game for a public release you may still experience a glitch. You may also run into a stalemate situation. If this should happen, please send me the replay because the stargate will be populated with line busting units. But before it can be turned on I need game data. Please report questions, comments, and bugs to me and send the replay with an approximate timestamp. My contact information can be found on the loading screen.
