Medieval Encaustic Tile

Medieval Encaustic Tile

Encaustic tile was created by using different clays to create the pattern rather than painting it on, due to this, it would wear wonderfully well and were widely used through the middle ages. Furthermore, it never really fell out of use, though often, many of todays mass-market tile just mimics the look. This is quite suitable for medieval builds as well as some Victorian builds where these tiles were often replicated or re-created to furnish a medieval/gothic look, and again through the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century (early 1900's). It is still something replicated today and could add an interesting look to newer builds as well.
