It gives your Sims a new type of relationship: Friends with Benefits. Any Sim can have this relationship with any number of Sims. Friends with Benefits are not jealous of each other, so they won't mind seeing their friends interact romantically with each other. You could even have a household of 4 adult Sims and all of them Friends with Benefits with each other, if that's what you wanted, for example.
