Just a question/consideration:
When I click on such a "problem" link in ATT's chat output, it tells me to post it to some discord server.
Obviously, I ignored that recommendation and posted it here (where it belongs, IMHO). I did this because I dislike Discord to the same degree that I dislike Google, in other words, I am trying to maintain a modicum of privacy in my already completely compromised travels.
Privacy issues aside, I think a chat platform like Discord is the least appropriate for any kind of software issues or suggestions because it's just too volatile.
(Anything from a previous discussion on Discord is difficult to retrieve on Discord and impossible to retrieve via search engines).
This should be resolved with the next release, or if you update through Github. :)
Fixed in 1998238.
Our primary reason for suggesting Discord as the "main venue" for reporting errors is because it lowers the barrier to entry, so to speak. With the amount of data ATT entails, errors are abundant and we very much like to be notified of these as much as possible. Discord being as popular as it is, especially with gamers, makes it the perfect platform in that regard. The vast majority of AddOn users are not developers themselves and are not at all familiar with GitHub, whereas Discord is something that is in many cases a known environment which users can easily navigate.
Another benefit of using Discord for this is their feature of "forum channels," where it will warn the user if the title they are using already exists. This helps prevent duplicate reports. A downside there is certainly the lack of an archive, as we delete resolved issues whenever we release a new version of the addon, in order to keep that channel functional and more easy to navigate. In that sense it is actually a little interesting one of your concerns is privacy, whereas the other is the difficulty to retrieve previous discussions.
For a community-driven AddOn such as ATT, being more easily accessible to that community is an important part of the AddOn's health, development, and popularity. We even reel in new contributors to help maintain the AddOn through Discord, and I myself would never have even started helping out with ATT or developing an AddOn of my own had I not first gotten a glimpse of how ATT handles reported errors through Discord.
Having your own concerns and preferences in that regard is totally fine, you are more than welcome to ignore the suggestion the AddOn makes and report errors through here. We keep an eye on both platforms, as well as any comments we receive on CurseForge and Wago, and perhaps some other platforms as well that I personally don't know about. But for the majority of users, suggesting Discord is the preferred route.

I totally agree with this take. We are not alone.
For better or worse, WoW community is active on Discord. ATT server has 8k+ members. It's just the most convenient place for users who already hang out there.
Our primary reason for suggesting Discord [โฆ]
Unless I missed something (which happens quite often), you did not even mention any of my two main concerns:
- Privacy
- Content: Volatility
Having your own concerns and preferences in that regard is totally fine
It is good to know that you feel that way. And now what? Maybe considering my "own" concerns? ๐
Or, any arguments against it?
I've been using ATT for many years and I'm not trolling, I just want it to be better and I don't like it when naive users are lured to commercial data harvesters (e.g. Discord, Google).
There's nothing wrong with your concerns over your privacy. You are more than welcome to post error reports here instead of on Discord. That said, the vast majority of wow players I know use Discord. Our guilds use Discord. Our wow servers have community Discords. Very very few people that play WoW also have a GitHub account. We're some of the few! As such I find the messaging appropriate and see no reason to change it.
