What is the enhancement in mind? How should it look and feel?
Changes need to be made to the relationship system.
A HATED relationship status would be nice, in addition to unfriendly.
There is no field to cover "comrades" such as in a military unit, which is prevalent in WoW. "Business" doesn't quite cut it.
A "best friends" field would be nice.
The "Love" relationship should be LESS specific. "X loves X." would be better than "X is IN love with X." My character is MORE than friends with lots of people, but not in love them them.
CONVERSELY- The "Family" relationship text could be changed to imply a family-strength bond rather than an actual bond of sharing the same blood.
Please provide any additional information below.

Hi !
I don't think we will add new relations at short term. The relation is a way to easily categorize characters, the goal is not to be "precise".
In addition to that, relations are not a shared information (if you set someone as friend, he won't be notify of that). So everyone can have it's own interpretation for each relation type. :)

If the relationship status is for our use only, is there a way we could rename them or add custom relationships, since it's for our own reference as users?

That could be a good idea, yes!

Some details on the implementation of this new relationship system:

  • Relationships should be displayed as a list (similar to the profiles list or companion list) in a new tab of the settings.
  • The system should use the current values as default when launching the add-on for the first time, but allow editing and deleting these values.
  • The relations should be stored on the account level, not per profile (but relationships are stored per profile).
  • A relation is composed of a name, an icon, a sentence with player name tokens (like {player} is in love with {target}), an hexadecimal value (that will be used to color the tooltip borders) and an ID (not visible by the user, only meant as a way to link players to relation. We can use our ID generator for those).
  • Clicking the relation ship open an editor popup.
  • Bonus: Make it possible to access the directory with a filter set to the clicked relation ship.

I created a quick mockup of the listing of relationships on Sketch, available here
The tooltip options are subject to change, I am not sure if clicking a relation should open the editor or go in the directory.
