Have the same problem.
Seems to have something to do with OptiFine (in my case).

Same here on 1.20.1 with optifine and chisel, but i remember having optifine and chisel and it worked fine on minecraft 1.12.2

Optifine is not supported anymore on modern C&B, use Embeddium + Monocle + Iris on (Neo)Forge or Sodium + Iris on Fabric.
