Timbones47’s Spider Forest: A Survive the Night(s) Minigame
Hello! My name is Timbones47, I’m a mapmaker. This is my second published map, and it is quite different from the first (see here). This map is a ‘Survive the Night’ type minigame, where each night, players go into the forest at dusk, and try to survive the spiders, while collecting string and eyes to trade to NPCs during the day, for different upgrades and better gear. The map is best played with 1-4 people. All credit goes to me, Timbones47. All scripting and concepts are original. All Rights Reserved. If you'd like to use this in a server, please message me on CurseForge or Discord at Timbones#1619. Thanks and enjoy! If you like what you see, check out my main project here.
All of this info is also linked in a book you get upon beginning, so you don't need to read it all now!
The Basics:
Each player begins with a Wooden Sword, Axe, Hoe, and Pickaxe, and 5 spider eyes. You may not craft torches or other light sources (light sources may be bought from the Merchant, see below).
Set your Brightness to somewhere between Moody and 40%. Otherwise, the forest just isn't spooky! :)
The Night:
Every night, players make their way into the Woods (Southwest of the Wizard’s Tower, in the grove of Birch Trees. The grove only opens at dusk, and once it is night time, it closes again, keeping the players inside the woods until dawn. The players must survive the spider-infested forest, search for useful loot caches, and collect spider eyes, the primary form of currency in this minigame. There are several campfires which, once they buy flint and steel, can serve as a permanent light source and cooking spot in the Woods. At dawn, they re-emerge from the forest.
The Day:
While the night is spent in the woods, the daytime is spent farming, upgrading, enchanting, making potions, and spending your points. This is also the time to trade with NPCs, and you can gain some secondary income from selling fish, crops, string, and other items.
The Rules:
The game mode should be set to Survival mode. Players are not permitted to break any blocks or items (placed blocks, such as Lanterns or crops, are acceptable). Stay inside the fenced area, and if you fall out somehow, head back inside it. The door to the Woods only opens for a minute or so, at Dusk, and then for a minute or so at Dawn. Be sure you are prepared each night and are ready to leave by morning, because once it closes, all movement into or out of the Woods stops!
The Tower:
The Tower is your homebase, and where you spend your day. There are seven NPCs you can trade with, which offer a number of products and upgrades, both to your gear and to the Tower. There are five rooms as well as the tower’s watchpost. Each has an NPC that works there, and the Horticulturalist resides in a small hut on the grounds. Should you need to set player spawns, there are 4 beds: one in the player room, one in the library, one in the watchtower, and one in the farmers hut.
